Sisters....

After we visited the Donguan Mosque in Xining we were waiting for our driver to return. YueYue imitates everything we do (especially Xian!). She's game to try any food we'll offer and watches carefully to see how she should do it...including trying ketchup with her fries at McDonalds and pulling off the cheese on her Pizza Hut pizza. Yes, we've been enjoying a few Western meals since our arrival to Beijing, mostly because of location, ease and we're all still a bit tired from our day of travel yesterday---this morning was the Immigration medical for YueYue, so we had to be on the bus at 8am. Xian and Grandma opted out (lucky for them!). According to the SOS medical doctor (the same one Xian had a few years ago) Rachel YueYue doesn't seem to have any developmental delays and has better than average fine motor skills (no trouble peeling oranges or hard boiled eggs, and in fact, hates to be helped in such things!). She's a bit thin for her height (which we already had figured out) and will need to have some dental work after she gets home (also not a surprise), but otherwise very healthy.

We're off to the Great Wall and the Jade factory tomorrow--hmmm, a long bus ride with a busy toddler....guess we'll be bring a lot of snacks! (YueYue eats like a logger, pretty much!)

YueYue adores her Grandma --- her first English words were "Bye Bye lou lou" (Chinese for Grandma), and now will say "Bye Bye Gamma!" She's attempting to copy a lot of what Xian says and now also says, Yum yum! Goo(d) job. Hello!" and looks at us like we're morons when we don't understand what she's trying to tell us in Qinghai-ese.

Her sense of humour is appearing---she loves to clown around and get people to laugh at her and especially likes to be chased. (And has escape artist tendencies...we're doing a lot of running around here!) We've discovered she has a good set of dimples, as well. Now that she's had a few baths, she thinks that it's great to remove all her clothing and jump into the tub (whether we have planned for a bath or not!). Seems to have the same nudist two year old tendencies her sister did.... We've wondered if we might use that duct tape to keep her pants on her! Today we redressed her about five times, and since she's a skinny thing, it takes little effort for her to pull those bottoms off!

Glad to see you're back in touch. i figured the lack of communication from Qinghai was likely owing to computer problems. I'm glad Xian likes little sister and hope the rest of the trip goes smoothly.
