Monday's Update
Both kids are continuing to do really well in spite of how messed up their schedules are. Tours, meals etc. not always when they should be. We're all looking forward to some regular bedtimes. Rachel YueYue is starting to be quite affectionate with us---and as long as she's not on a bus she's fairly happy. And if she has access to food she's really happy! We went to a Sichuan Restaurant across the street for dinner where she was in noodle heaven (Xian liked the garlic broccoli and the cashew chicken).
We went to the Sanlitunyashow Market with our group this afternoon...Mama did some bargaining, though Grandma said she'd rather pay more and not have to negotiate! Xian made friends with all the sellers and managed to get free candies, beads and toys---she was obviously the one who should have been doing the bargaining and made for very friendly negotiations. (Mama incorporated Xian's entertainment "fee" in the starting prices....). At the beginning of our trip to China it bothered Xian that a lot of people seemed to be looking at her, but now her response is to say, "Hi!! Nihao!" and to initate contact with anyone who glances her way and to make friends with all store employees and pretty much everyone who we encounter.
At the market Rachel YueYue was ready to try on shoes and would fling off her shoes and socks any time we were near a shoe seller (a future Imelda Marcos)---since her feet look a bit different than most kids, it was sometimes a bit of a surpise to the sellers! We've discovered that YueYue is a bit of a nudist---the moment we come back to the hotel room she wants to remove all clothing items, and in the stroller she'll fling shoes and socks along the way. Let's just say that our bargaining and shopping was pretty "efficient" with keeping track of one child throwing her clothing and another heading off to chat with vendors! Mama is getting a lot of exercise these days---YueYue loves to be chased!
We ended our evening with a visit to the "Park N Shop" store across the way---Xian and Rachel like the "Lonely God" potato puffs and the Italian Meat flavour Lay potato chips. And for Lifei---we've found many bottles of the yoghurt drink you mentioned. YueYue seems addicted, and we like that "no spill" sport top!
Tomorrow we'll get a bit of a sleep in as we are skipping Tianamen and Forbidden city (to spare our group from YueYue's bus screaming---there's just something about that bus she HATES!), so will probably wander down the street and take it a bit easy. We find Beijing pedestrian traffic almost relaxing compared to crossing streets in Xining!
Xian and YueYue are playing together more and more each day. Xian has always been willing, but YueYue is now a bit less "smacky" to her sister, especially as Xian has shared fries, ice cream and other treats, YueYue figures she must be okay! Xian has been helping out a lot...very proud of her new role, too!

Oh, you are having so much fun in Beijing.I can see Yue Yue is a very active happy girl. Can't wait to meet her! We miss Xian very much.
Thank you for the bottles. I'm glad that Xian and Yue Yue like the drink.

It sounds like you're having an adventure Linda! Your girls look beautiful together - it's really good to hear that Xian is so keen on her big sister role. Please make sure that when you get back home you let me know if there's anything I can do to help. Childcare, personal shopper, chef etc.
Hope your trip home goes well.
Liana
